Forest Flower
I spent the afternoon walking in the forest, and collecting a few more orienteering check points. All my activity was concentrated around Beacon Hill so there was a fair amount of up and down. Along the way there were lots of examples of this orchid, the heath spotted orchid - Dactylorhiza maculata.
One of the fun points of this annual summer orienteering exercise is discovering new places around here. Today I discovered a secret staircase which used to be the pedestrian route to the top, and an entire wind shelter, with picnic spot and fire place, quite near the top of the hill.
