A Sort of Rest Day and Dinner

A good “rest” day as in not being blown off a hill at the Durham County Show ground trying to put a tent up. But L did have some bites from something on our Camper Van bed, and it wasn’t me so the sheets and mattress topper and everything had to come out and the mattress was treated to some magic potion for dissuading anything small from joining us in bed!

Pruning LV’s garden also does not count as a rest for L either as she methodically worked her way through the jungle of the garden with a pair of secateurs. (Just learned how to spell that - and the difference between those garden scissors and a non sequitur. It seems the latter is pretty useless at pruning plants).

I managed to watch India absolutely pulverise the English bowlers and given England have to score 608 to win, this looks like a lost cause. Particularly as the record score for a second innings win in test cricket is 418.

However, subject of the blip is our restaurant for Saturday dinner where LV and I had eaten the most delicious pork belly last week and which also had some very tasty sounding lamb chops. I had been singing the pork belly’s praises to L since she got back from Portugal. This was to be our goal for the evening. We would order Pork Belly and/or Lamb chops. As it happened, the pork belly and lamb chops had obviously heard me, and decided to scarper before we could order. Both not available on this Saturday night! Oh well, Gnocchi with pesto it was. Just not the same, but after crying in my imaginary soup for 5 minutes decided to put disappointment aside and enjoy everything that was set before us. Not without a word in the manager’s ear which resulted in the generous offer of a free coffee after dinner!? I think he must have realised this was a rather paltry gesture and we were then served a small glass of limoncello. Enjoyed the company and the gnocchi turned out to be not half bad, though it was completely lacking in belly of anything :)
