They Don't Make 'em Like This Any More...
... and more's the pity!
I haven't seen the Lloyd-Webber musical of "Whistle Down the Wind", but I believe it is based on the book and this delightful 1961 film of the same name, which I watched this afternoon.
Set on a Yorkshire farm, the story involves the above three siblings who find an injured on-the-run murderer (played by Alan Bates) hiding in their barn, and think he is Jesus.
The original book was written by Mary Hayley Bell and stars her daughter, Hayley Mills, as the eldest of the three children, but the little lad, Alan Barnes, absolutely steals the show. (IMHO)
This absolute gem of a film is available on ITVX for anyone who wants a break from the tennis or football that is dominating our screens at the moment.
