The Bellamy Birthday Bash
On the first Tuesday of every month those who joined the Royal Navy as Artificers and did so at HMS Fisgard meet for a “pie & pint”.
Normally we meet in Plymouth but the July meeting has moved to Falmouth and has become the “Bellamy Birthday Bash”
In the Royal Navy, an Artificer was a highly skilled, technically trained individual who served as a skilled tradesman and technician. We were responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of various shipboard systems and equipment, including engines, electrical systems, and even aircraft maintenance in some cases.
The term "Artificer" in the Royal Navy has been replaced with other titles, but it once denoted a position of significant technical expertise and responsibility.
I arrived at 1200 and had such a good time amongst those of us who have shared the experience that the only photo I took was of the front of the pub as I approached!
We range from a couple who had joined in the ‘50’s to those who were there at Fisgard demise in the ‘80’s and even some who were Artificers but had not been through HMS Fisgard.
What a great day.
