Tiny Game Hunting...Yikes! Another Spider...

This protective mother is a Florida false wolf spider or Tropical wolf spider Ctenus captiosus, a species of 'wandering spider' in the family Ctenidae. This is one of two species of Ctenidae found here in Florida. Its leg span may be up to 3.0 in (75 mm). I found this vigilant mom in our backyard, under a clay pot. The second photo is what I presume to be her egg case. I took a few shots then replaced the pot, not wanting to disturb her further. It's reported that even though her bite is not lethal to humans, it can cause swelling around the site, nausea and flulike symptoms that can last for several days. My hard and fast rules are to take photos and don't touch! And I always try to leave the creature as I found them. m
