Scarce Swallowtail …
… to cheer me up after walking high to observe the eagles’ nest again. They weren’t there! The nest looked abandoned, there was no movement. A week ago the young bird was moving around a lot and the parents came in to feed him several times. We had a huge storm last night, I hope it didn’t fill the nest with water or blow the chick out. I’ll check again next Monday.
Back to the Scarce Swallowtail … “Despite its name, which refers to its status in England (as an extremely rare vagrant), this species is common throughout much of Europe” according to the butterfly guru, Guy Padfield. Extra to show the full upper wing pattern.
Another storm has just rolled in and Wimbledon has taken over commenting time, such high quality games.
