Rocky Existence

There was a rather grey start to this morning but no rain which was a bonus. Swim time on a Monday is dictated by the rounds of the bin lorry which is big enough to block the roads to the slip and so it's set in stone at 8:45am for the majority of the swimmers.  With a NW wind the water and air temperature felt colder than of late but was very invigorating. I spotted this little mayweed plant eking out an existence amongst the rocks on the shore near the slip.

Later in the morning I was invited by CarenSelkie to see some photos of the sailing she made  last November as a crew member on the tall ship Bark Europa from Auckland round the Cape of Good Hope to the Falklands. I had followed her route on the internet and was fascinated by the whole journey.  The photos Caren took en route  were magnificent. There is no way I would ever have been able to envisage climbing  the rigging to secure the sails with that sea boiling  beneath me.  Equally, despite was happening on deck, who would have thought that below deck, 2 chefs prepared 3 meals a day for 52 people for 2 months .

Back home there is tennis to watch and later still, highlights from the Tour.
