Stunning sculpture
The sun returned in Helsinki today so I started my day at the Sibelius sculpture. I wanted a sunny day to have the sculpture sparkle. And it did.
Sculptor Eila Hiltunen's magnificent work made up of 600 tubes of acid-resistant steel was unveiled in 1967 to honour Finland's renowned composer Jean Sibelius (1865-1957).
Set in Sibelius Park on the sea coast of Helsinki the work sits atop a stoney outcrop, surrounded by mature trees, and is very accessible. Today it was quiet but as I departed two busloads of travellers pulled up. I was pleased to have been able to ponder the work alone.
