Morning light through the blinds

The patches of sunlight in the deep shadow on the chest of drawers were the beginning of a hot, hot day. J struggles to maintain her body temperature when it's too hot for her, so it was a day spent in her shady room with her fan, wet flannels on her forehead and a supply of ice cubes, until deep shade engulfed the scorching patio after five o'clock, by which time the bedroom was significantly hotter than outside. We got through it without major problems, but it was a worry rather than a pleasure.
