Grebe on Alexandrina

Lovely to wake up in the middle of (almost) nowhere, open the curtains and be greeted to a snowy vista.  The clouds were down so mountains not evident but nevertheless, gorgeous location.  D, K & I shared an hour or more of chatting  about this and that, including wondering whether ducks get cold feet and bums swimming on cold ponds and walking over snowy ground (extra)?  Feel free to share if you know anything :D
D & K then  headed away towards Mt Cook and I headed less than a km or so over the baby hill to Lake Alexandrina where Mr Grebe was happily swimming back and forth calling out to whoever might be listening (hoping, no doubt, that Ms Grebe may return his call).  A few scaup, a couple of mallards, some little fish swimming about in the outlet stream and that was pretty much us.

Back then to Twizel and down the canal just to see what was going on - nothing much of note, though I did see a couple of hawks have a bit of an aerial spat.  It didn't come to much and unfortunately they were too far away to capture.
