Spread 'em!

I think this might be a newly emerged adult.

I watched it trundle around the dahlias for quite a while - as ladybirds do - but I noticed that at the edge of each petal it was flexing and seemed to be struggling to raise its wing-cases and stretch its wings. It would manage one, rather like a bird might, but then not the other. Eventually though... ta-dah! 

It then trundled round a bit more before finally taking its maiden (?) flight. 

I'm still rather in awe of what my smartphone can do. Yes, I had time to get my DSLR and macro lens, but I don't think I could better this. This, and the extras are straight off the phone - no messing with it. For once, please look large on black.
