Ryssnäs British soldier graves
Steinbock_Travels Day 14
The weather was a bit overcast, but good enough to set off on a decent bike ride on Farö island. First stop was cake and coffee at the cafe from yesterday, that had just opened. It was about 16 km on very quit roads, past lots of windmills and sheep, very cute Gotland sheep with curly grey coats. Ryssnäs was a base in the Crimean war, where British, French and other allies were stationed. Unfortunately they died in a cholera epidemic at the base, around 20, and there is a little memorial garden there.
We cycled back the same way, it was so nice. After a little lunch we packed up, and headed back with the ferry to the main island, Gotland. It was raining slightly, so we decided to visit the military museum with lots of Saab jets, and Helicopters, and a 2nd world war bunker, interesting, but all in Swedish. We travelled another hour south east, to Katthammarsvik, when we parked up next to the sea at a fish smoking place, with restaurant. We had a brilliant spot with great view over the little harbour.
