Sleep Well Janice
There were five of us, friends throughout Secondary School; Frances, Helen, Janet, Janice and me. The five of us formed a Dance Group which performed at School functions and four of us were in the Hockey Team. Janice, second from the right on the back row, died last week, sadly before Helen and I could visit. Since leaving School our connection had reduced to Christmas and Birthday cards. There was always the intention to meet up but time went by without it happening. Helen and I rediscovered each other some years ago and we get together a few times each year for a walk and lunch, with Tim and Tony. Janet died many years ago, much too young. Her Mother rang me to tell me as Tony and I were leaving for the maternity hospital when our eldest was about to be born. Frances contacted me when I was still on Facebook to say she had been given a gift token for afternoon tea at a hotel in Skipton and would I like to join her? I did and we had a smashing few hours catching up on our lives, but there was no repeat. It's strange how five people who spent six inseparable years should lose touch and I'm sure we are not the only ones feeling regretful over that.
Janice was the gorgeous one, tall and slim, one of those women who always attracted a second look; funny; notoriously always late, ironing the cuffs of the damp blouse she had washed too recently. I shall miss her funeral as we will be away, so I have dug out a handful of photos from our schooldays which I will copy and Helen will take for her family. Sleep well Janice.
My blip is from 1971.
