Field Trip

I took my class on a field trip today. Turns out it was a perfect day for it - not too hot and a bit overcast. My friends Bruce and Jerry have cultivated a phenomenal garden on their 5 acres in the hills of Portland. Carved out of what was originally woods which had been forested and not replanted, they set about clearing land for their house and garden. Little did they know that the garden would grow to more than 2 acres!

They are passionate plant collectors and travelers, often seeing plants in their travels that they acquire once back in the States. The garden is filled with of incredible specimens, most(if not all) of which Bruce can name (with the scientific name). We had a most amazing tour through the gardens, followed by cookies made by Jerry - a trademark of their hospitality. Some even say that they come for the cookies :-)
