Trechtinghausen

The Rhine Cycle Path, Day Three:

Our first day’s proper cycling; from Mainz to Bad Salzig, near Boppard. A lovely stretch of the Rhine, passing various castles and crossing once by ferry, at Rudesheim. We passed through Trechtinghausen and Bacharach and stopped at Oberwessel, near the Lorelei, for a picnic lunch from Lidl. We were in a very nice hotel at Bad Salzig – with kind of an Alpine vibe of pitched roof and wooden balconies – though it was unstaffed, so we had to let ourselves into the garage to stow our bikes and then leave the key at the desk where we picked up our room key. The town itself was pretty quiet – and Boppard itself too far to walk – so we stocked up at the local supermarket for dinner and picnicked on the balcony…
