A sad day
This is the view from the first tee at Hazlemere Golf Club, near Amersham, which is where the wake was held following today's funeral for my friend, Dorothea. She passed away on 16 June after being diagnosed in March with an untreatable cancer. I met Dorothea some 50 years ago when we both worked at the Hammersmith Hospital in West London. We had been friends ever since. Dorothea retired from the NHS in 2007 at the age of 59 and then took Art degrees in Ceramics, firstly a BA and then an MA. This opened up a second career for her as an artist. I posted a blip of Dorothea in March 2023 when I met her in Teddington where she was exhibiting -

All those attending the funeral today received one of the ceramic seed heads Dorothea had made, as a keepsake. Her creativity, love, compassion and humour shone through all the tributes paid to her at the service. Dorothea was a Scot and I particularly liked this poem by Robbie Burns that was read at the service -
'An honest friend here lies at rest.
The friend of all, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth,
Few hearts like hers, with virtue warmed.
Few heads with knowledge so informed.
If there is another world, she lives in bliss,
If there is none, she made the best of this.
Taken too soon, she will be very much missed
