Tough Guy
I guess if I can't be in the Brazilian rainforest, my garden is an adequate fallback. I woke up feeling pretty down, so decided to spend time out with the wild things. This hummingbird was almost too close to photograph - I had to take half a step back to focus. If you look closely, you will see that the tip of his beak is slightly deformed which clearly isn't impeding him at all. After he perched for about 30 seconds, he was off chasing another hummer.
In addition to a nice selection of birds, I also got to watch a big female monarch leaving eggs all over my milkweed patches; I saw four species of bumble bees, and a new (to me) scorpionfly species. All in all, it was a good way to spend the day and helped to lift my spirits.
Our guide has been in touch to update us on things. He's made multiple trips to the police station and they seem to think the scammers have done this before. Once all the police reports are done, he can file with his own insurance company. I am confident he will make us all whole financially although it may take some time. What a crappy situation, though, for everyone concerned.
Jax is at day care today where he's been able to have some play time with his bestie, a border collie mix named Sasha. He will come home tired, hopefully.
My bestie Peggy is flying home from Greece tomorrow. She's been there almost 3 weeks which I think has been a great getaway for her. Other bestie, Kura, is marking a birthday today although she came back from Greece with a nasty sinus thing, so there won't be much celebrating. We are all planning to get together in August so will celebrate then.
I have to say that it was nice to sleep in my own bed last night. The four days prior involved 2 nights on a fairly hard bed in a hotel in São Paulo and two nights sleeping on an airplane. My bed felt very blissful.
