The Celebration Sofa

This year’s Clan Cancer Appeal sculptures which are on show in various locations around north-east Scotland, are benches in the shape of an open book … aka BookBenches!  Last time the sculptures were of lighthouses.

Clan hope that people will be encouraged to take a seat and be willing to talk to passers-by about their well being.

This bench/book entitled ‘The Celebration Sofa’ is outside Pittodrie Stadium home of Aberdeen FC.  The artist, Ewan Milne, is a Dons’ supporter and his painting of the sculpture commemorates the 40th anniversary of Aberdeen’s last winning the Scottish Premiership League.

It was a work in progress as the Scottish football season drew to a close.  In this year’s Scottish Cup Final Aberdeen triumphed defeating Celtic.  It must have been an omen!

Not sure if Ewen will be around in 40 years time or not to create a new BookBench to commemorate the cup win.  If he is it will surely be a fairytale with a happy ending just like winning the cup was for the Dons’ fans!

I hope to see and photograph a few more sculptures over the coming weeks

There is another photo of this page-turner in the extras.
