My little haul of veg to take to the market! It’s the best year I have had, due to spending more time looking after things, and not going away for long in June. The raspberries and blueberries have been particularly good and I will make some jam.
We are a little disappointed with the mangetout peas as although plentiful they are not particularly tender or sweet. I will try a different variety next year. There are some podding peas coming along, the leeks look good, and there’s still the autumn raspberries to come. Oh and we dug the first of the main crop potatoes, as there was some leaf blight. They are Kestrel, and completely unblemished and untouched by slugs, even though grown under black plastic. So that experiment has worked to some extent, the ground elder couldn’t smother the potatoes. However, the roots are still very much alive so it looks like a second year of smothering will be needed!
