Somewhere in France....
When we drive to Switzerland we usually depart home very early, around 4am, but today as we were tired we decided to leave home 2 hours later. With the crossing at the Eurotunnel being a bit slow to board it was late morning by the time we set off from Calais driving through France.
We were in Gavin’s electric car so we knew today would take slightly longer as we had to stop to recharge, so we were prepared for a long day. Initially we had booked to stay overnight near Nancy in France but then we cancelled that, as we prefer to rather bat on and just get to our destination in one day.
It was hot and sunny driving through France. We stopped to charge a few times and mostly at Tesla super charger stations which are located near retail parks just off the motorway. At one stop while the car was charging we wandered around the shops enjoying an iced coffee at Starbucks (the only place where we knew we could get oat milk). The car charges very quickly, in about 20 minutes, and it only costs about €10 for 300km so a win for us and a win for the environment (I think?).
The scenery viewed from the motorway is stunning at this time of year. Fields of golden crops, yellow sunflowers, blue skies with white clouds and white wind turbines, so many amazing landscape photography opportunities, if only you could stop beside the motorway to take photos! I wish I could have stopped for photos and spent time exploring this area. This photo was taken from a picnic site where we stopped to eat lunch and walk Xena, it's not the best view but you get an idea of the landscape.
I had packed breakfast and lunch but we planned to stop somewhere to eat supper in a roadside restaurant. However, we decided to skip supper as the day was so long we just wanted to get there. We finally rolled into the garage just after 11pm! I have quickly unpacked my clothes but the rest can wait until tomorrow, it's way past our bedtime.
