Dramatic Skies
I got up early to drive to the Snowies today for a hike. I knew the chance of some weather was a possibility. The skies were certainly threatening but beautiful. I just did a short hike up to the Gap Lakes and then turned around. It started to sprinkle but it didn't cut loose. Being in the high country is not the place to be during a thunderstorm. The wildflowers are fabulous right now. There is so much moisture and still lots of snow around. My extras are Marsh Marigolds and some Columbine.
Some names of the flowers I saw were Alpine Sunflowers, Elephant Heads (the little flowers look just like elephant faces), Yellow Glacier Lilies galore, American Bistort, Asters, Mountain Bluebells, Yarrow, Ross' Avens, Western Bog Laurel and Labrador Indian Paintbrush (a neat yellowish blossom instead of bright red). There are certainly others that I don't know what they are called. I hope the next time I'm up there it is better weather so I can sit and enjoy the views.
