Chalons en Champagne
Last school day and the children left by 11:30. Mr C was picking me up at one so we could head off (agreed by head…others finish around 2 after speeches and lunch) but what I wasn’t expecting was for all staff to help clear our classrooms in prep for work being done. I did help, of course, but was careful with things I was carrying to avoid (white) t shirt getting filthy and me getting too sweaty.
Anyway, we headed off hoping to catch an earlier train then booked as once we arrived in Calais we had a three hour drive ahead of us and we didn’t want to arrive too late. The M20 was closed so we were at a standstill for half an hour and then the trains were delayed due to an earlier fault. So although we did leave about 45 minutes ahead of schedule, it wasn’t the two hours we were hoping for.
The drive from Calais to Chalons was very good and we made good progress arriving around 9pm local time. We had a little walk around this pretty town to get some milk to make tea but also for some fresh air and stretch our legs. Back in our room, which turned out to be a 2 bed apartment, we sat on the balcony and ate our M&S poke bowls that Mr C bought earlier.
