Baking!

The temp in full shade in our back garden at the time of me taking the photo was 32.8C which is why I was staying in near a fan. Look at that sky though!
Some people might like this weather but it's too hot for us.
Extra is of a blackbird drying itself off in the sun on our front (fried) lawn  after it had used one of our bird baths. The lawn will recover eventually - I never water the lawns even in heatwaves - seems a waste of water. I have plenty of grass seed if the lawn doesn't recover!
We went shopping (Tesco) this morning and we've not done much else unless you count pegging out washing and bringing it in. Pegging it out wasn't too bad as it was in the morning but bringing it in this afternoon was like stepping in and out of a furnace. I opened the door to our front porch this afternoon to get a parcel that had been delivered and I soon closed it again - greenhouse effect is an understatement.
That's enough moans about the weather for now!
I had wanted to do some cleaning today but decided that the heat was a good reason not to do it. Terry said to me "It's too hot for gardening" and I hadn't intended doing any so I was surprised he said that but I think he meant that's why nobody was doing any! The die-hards have been frying - I mean sunbathing - though.
As someone who has had malignant melanoma I find it hard to see people burning themselves seemingly on purpose. There are 20,800 new cases of melanoma diagnosed annually in the UK. I wish people would look it up and realise it's not "just skin cancer" as many people think - yes it can spread to your organs and when it spreads it usually spreads like wildfire.
I count myself as fortunate that mine was whipped off before any signs of spread but I'm not complacent about it even now, 15 years later - I know it could still come back with a vengeance. Hence I take care in the sun and I love my UV umbrellas. I have found that I enjoy the sun just as much (actually better) from the shade. I've never been a sunbather anyway.
Excuse the soapbox please but I feel duty-bound to try to raise awareness of  melanoma. Hope you all stay safe in this heatwave.
Planning a geocaching trip for next week (when it is hopefully cooler) with my pals.
