2025 Wednesday — UkeLadies Rehearsal
This is our fourth Wednesday of attending the UkeLadies rehearsal. A number of weeks ago Mr. Fun exhibited interest in learning how to play the ukulele and started making noises about purchasing a UkeLadies.
So I asked our friend Elaine, who is in the UkeLadies band, where to purchase a used ukulele and very quickly Mr. Fun was offered a choice of one of her three extra ukuleles to borrow. He brought them all home. Immediately he eliminated one of them. Then decided on the one he would use to learn how to play. He went to one of the UkeLadies rehearsals but fairly quickly decided he didn’t want to attend because he was the only male there, but I think mostly he didn’t want to put in the effort to learn. He said his fingers were too fat to make the chords. So instead of returning the two borrowed ukuleles to Elaine, I picked-up the other ukulele to see if I could join him (and encourage him) in learning how to play. I started casually asking for advice and pointers from Elaine on how to learn to play. That was before my piano arrived; it was a serious display of stupidity on my part.
Elaine spontaneously phoned one Wednesday morning and said she was coming over to help us both play the ukulele. About three Wednesdays in a row she did that and then explained that we needed to attend the Ukeladies rehearsal on Wednesday afternoons. Elaine told us that the experts claim the best way to learn is to get into a group to practice playing the ukulele . That’s what we’ve been doing now every Wednesday.
I think currently I am more interested in learning ukulele than Mr. Fun is. I thoroughly enjoy attending the UkeLadies rehearsals (we both do). We both enjoy singing with them, (even though I’m not a singer). My real desire, though, is to learn to play the piano.
So this photo reveals that we are rehearsing our borrowed ukuleles with the dedicated ladies who call themselves the UkeLadies.
From California’s Central Coast,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
