This Land Is Your Land?

Taking a walk along a forest road, I saw a fallen survey marking tree. The sign said not to disturb this marker under penalty of law, which I guess didn't apply to nature. Upon seeing this, I remembered the saying "we don't own our land, we rent it from future generations".
