Hats off!

To anyone who manages to take good photos of butterflies. I followed this little one and its mate for ages, and this was the best I could get. I was down at the allotment fairly early before it got too scorchio. As it’s a cabbage white, it maybe isn’t that welcome at the allotments. But I’ve never been tempted to grow cabbages so it’s welcome on my plot. There’s something that lifts the spirits to see them fluttering about, visiting the flowers.
However, hats on!! To anyone who is outside, to protect your head, and the skin on your face….
It was 32c here in the shade today.  I’ve got a bit cleverer with closing curtains and blinds on the sunny side; using an icy hot water bottle, and making fishy water for Portia to drink. She can’t resist it - even though she never drinks the fresh water that is down for her every day - so, hopefully that will rehydrate her and help her stay well.
Activities today: listening to the cricket, half watching the women’s final at Wimbledon, which was really sad and awful, listening to the audiobook of Matt Haig’s Midnight Library, continuing to label, sort and delete the many, many thousands of photos on my  iPad. You will notice all of that involves sitting down.  At about midday I met my neighbour ( I had just popped out to my bin) on her way out for the afternoon with her children. They seemed fine and not bothered by the heat.  I rather sadly concluded it must be something to do with getting older…..
