Hidden treasures in the Vestments Chest of Drawers

Being the youngest, and by far the fittest, of those who deal with the vestments chest of drawers in our sacristy on a regular basis, the lot fell to me to heed the signs that a bit of reorganising of what lives where would be helpful. It's a 4 drawers beastie, and I needed to move everything from the 3rd drawer (counting down from the top) to the top drawer.

And, lo, when I pulled everything out of that 3rd drawer which was causing difficulties, hidden treasures galore came to light. Quite a few were checked over and put back where I got them from. But there were squeals of joy when I dug this booklet out and a former sacristan's notes of what's needed when!! Which made me a bit sad as well as very pleased, as it highlighted much of what we no longer do, (for complex and varied reasons) but also meant we have written down clues as to what has worked well before.

What delighted me about the book about Altar Linen (printed 1932) was the fact I was definitely doing all the right things in caring for our linen. But then the person who taught me (when she was well in her 90s and I was but a whippersnapper in my early 20s) had learned her caring for altar linen and laundry skills before that book was written.
