Stavanger #3
No other street in Stavanger links the past and the present together in such an exciting way as Pedersgata. What was once the city's working-class area has now become the city's leading foodie destination with four Michelin Star restaurants!
Until the 1980s, Pedersgata was the eastern district's leading shopping street, but the establishment of shopping centres outside the city gradually led to less activity. In the nineties, several premises were empty, and many houses had fallen into disrepair. Now this has changed, and from being "the city's backyard" Pedersgata has become the place you do not want to miss out on when you visit Stavanger.
And Mrs CBL and I didn’t! We walked along the street today not in search of the restaurants but looking out for NuArt installations of which there are many. I mentioned on day one of our visit that Stavanger was in at the start of the street art scene in European countries and now works very closely with Aberdeen on many projects.
Here are some of the displays we saw. The main image is also on display in Aberdeen with some colour changes to the one in Stavanger.
