Condemned Crayfish
After the catching of the crayfish yesterday, today was dedicated to the eating of them. I wanted nothing to do with it and luckily I went out for a crayfish-free lunch to celebrate our musical year with Linton Jazz at Nine's.
It was fun.
But, I came back and found that Sam still hadn't done the deed, he was waiting for Ross. They killed and cooked the hapless crustaceans and ate them (washed down with beer). It was very messy and I didn't get the impression that they were in fact delicious.
One small one has been spared - with Sam hoping it was the native variety and suggesting that we could keep it as a pet in the pond. But sadly it's a small signal crayfish and it's an offence to keep it and an offence to put it back in the river. We clearly need more otters in the area...
