Sorry but not sorry for the rant
I read about the thousands of complaints about the episode of Countryfile which showed a farm that keeps dairy cows indoors all year round saying they live a life of luxury.
Most people think that dairy cows graze on lush green fields, some do but intensive, industrial farming is on the rise and it is cruel.
The industry uses false advertising of happy cows in fields, this is far from the truth.
Many people don’t know that in order to produce so much milk for the demand for all the products made from it - cheese, yoghurt, ice cream, milk shake drinks, cakes, puddings, chocolate - cows must be milked 2 to 3 times a day.
To produce milk in such large quantities the cows are artificially impregnated once a year, they carry their calves for 9 months just like human mums do.
At birth or one day old the calves are taken away from their mums which causes much distress. The mums grieve like we would but then have to get on with being mechanically milked. I have heard the cows bellowing for their calves when we lived next to a farm.
I don’t go on about being vegan, it is my choice as I don’t want animals to suffer.
I understand if Blippers don’t want to read this or comment.
I just had to get this off my chest. The BBC need to be honest about what goes on.
