Experimentation
The excessive hot weather has departed, allowing normal life to resume! This morning I decided to experiment a little, I normally shoot on aperture priority mode, but today I have gone full manual. I decide the settings, including the white balance, and not the camera! To do this I metered the brightest area in the frame so as to preserve the highlights and to let the shadows look after themselves.
I must say that I liked this way of working, it slows you down, which is a good thing, and you think more. What was pleasing was that in Lightroom I had nothing to do, no adjustment apart from a little clarity, not very much! So a lot of time saved. My preference would be to render these images in monochrome, but I have left them in colour to let you see the original.
What got me on to this track was walking around the village last night during the 'blue hour', I experimented taking shots but with the white balance set to 5500, the normal setting for bright daylight. I liked the results and images were rendered in Lightroom as I remembered the image lighting at the time. In the link below are the other images I took this morning. I will play around with full manual for a while and see what happens.
