A sunny and extra cool start to the morning. 

A scrumptious brunch was enjoyed in the historic Powerhouse building in the centre of the village before saying farewell to Hanmer and making our way home via the Lewis Pass.

A huge slip had closed the road in the Lewis Pass for several days, but had opened the previous morning to one lane traffic during daylight hours, closing over night until work was completed.

The section of State Highway from Kawateri junction and over the Spooners Range had also opened after damage from devastating floods at the end of June / beginning of July closed many roads in the area. Many smaller local roads are still closed and waiting for repairs.

We were very relieved highways were open in time for our road journey to and from Christchurch.
