Raindrops on Roses...

We were the lucky ones to have a hefty half hour of rain today.. the roses have big pools of water in their centres. It didn't put off the hungry bumble (extra) who was visiting nearly all the flowers on this buddleia one after the other.
The smell (petrichor) in the air was wonderful as the rain settled on the warm parched earth.. I hope it will have helped the wildlife somewhat.. the birds have fallen silent in the heat but there have been masses of butterflies out and about.
We have managed to find a taker (albeit for free) for out huge old tv she was delighted of course.. and so were we although a few pounds in the pocket would have been nice I have tried for the past two weeks to get less than £30 for it.. but no.. anyway it has now gone and we can get the room back together once again.
There is quite a strong breeze this afternoon which will soon dry everything off. Oh and I read that Thames water who last week had said they were not thinking about any restrictions being put in place have now said no hosepipes. As I am unable to carry a watering can around the garden I will be using a hosepipe to fill the watering can nearer to the plants that need the water. Seems reasonable. At least I will be aware of what I am using instead of wasting it. Our neighbour sowed a one metre square patch of grass to repair the damage his builders made over the past 18 months.. the first lot never seeded but the second lot did.. however even though  it is growing well as he waters it regularly I spotted he had put the sprinkler onto it the other evening. It was squirting 4 feet up his house wall and then out onto the driveway.. only in the morning did I realise he had left it on all night!!!!!  perhaps that is why we now have a water ban looming next week!
