Strand sculpture
To London this afternoon for a meeting of the charitable Trust of which I'm the Secretary. The journey up was OK but the notice of disruption due to a signalling fault between Woking and Surbiton was ominous. Sure enough, lots of trains delayed for the journey back so I'm making use of the wait to post today's blip.
This is a sculptured stone figure just off the Strand. According to a List of public art in Strand London, it is a repurposed architectural sculpture that was commissioned for the offices of the United Kingdom Provident Institution, demolished in the 1970s. It dates from 1900 - 1925 and the sculptor was Henry Poole. There are two other pieces of his with the same provenance nearby.
