If you can't beat them...

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula )

I seem to blip in waves.  Sometimes I take flowers for days on end and now I seem to be tied into birds.  I keep looking for a fledgling Robin but no luck.  Then this one posed and showed me it wasn't keen on there being paparazzo around.

Robins are one of the UK's favourite birds.  I don't know if their popularity has anything to do with their increase in numbers during the later part of the last century.  There are 7.4 million breeding territories and the numbers are boosted in winter when migrants from the continent arrive.  Like many small birds the typical lifespan is only a couple of years or so.  The record proved by ringing is 8 years 4 months and 30 days.

Before somebody asks I have no idea why 30 days doesn't count as a fifth month.
