Trapunto
It was excessively wet today. The wheelbarrow is almost full!
I spent most of the afternoon learning a new quilting technique, trapunto. This involves adding extra padding behind selected areas to make them stand out. It was fun to do, and I was trying to see if it will be worth the extra effort to pick out the ‘Sailors Gift’ motifs in the quilt I am working on. I did wonder if the trapunto would be noticeable within such a highly patterned fabric, or if simply outlining the shapes with a single wadding layer would be enough. The shell patterns are what attracted me to the fabric in the first place.
Having worked this sample piece, I do think it gives a really good 3D effect…do you?
