A day in the life

I had a few errands this morning in Färjestaden, where the ferries used to land in the days before the bridge was built in the early seventies. It's my nearest town, only a few km away, where all the service I need is, the main service I needed today was to have a haircut at the shopping mall. I did some shopping, had lunch and went to the bank as well, everything is close and very local. In the summer everything is different though, Öland, my island, is a well established tourist destination and the number of people on the island increase by a lot. We are about 26 000 people living here, in the summer the population goes up to abut 300 000, quite noticeable during mid June to mid August. Most people go to the northern part of the island where the beaches and the night life is, Färjestaden is a little below the middle and all the southern part mostly attract people interested in nature and birds. When I went to the bank I noticed with a smile the new clocks on the wall, showing the time in some of the major places on the island from north to south. There are people from all over the world here in the summer and I think the bank wants them to feel part of something bigger, once they are here.

We had a beautiful afternoon and evening, for once without the wind and very agreeable temperatures, a perfect setting for a glass of wine on the veranda. I wish you a happy mid-week.
