Bridges
The Twelve Arches Bridge, near Dundrum in County Down, Northern Ireland.
This bridge replaced an old ford and is located on the former main road connecting Dundrum and Newcastle.
The name odd name - "Slidderyford" - translates to "ford of the living stones" from the Irish "Áth na gCloch Beó," referring to ancient standing stones and a dolmen in the vicinity. The bridge is notable for its ornate design and the twelve arches that give it its alternative name, built sometime after 1836. The twelve arches were necessary due to the frequent flooding of the surrounding fields by the Carrigs River during heavy rains, which would have covered the old ford by two feet at high tide.
Almost 200 years on it is still amazing
