Translation

Headed down to a very wet Bantry to the library to see today's lunchtime session of the West Cork Literary Festival which is running all week. A session with two translators (Sarah Ardizzone and Antain Mac Lochlainn) discussing issues around translating literature and also directly referring to Gaël Faye's novel Petit Pays. Sarah had translated this into English and Antain had translated it into Irish. I found their discussion of the nuances and the need to stay true to the original language while stretching their own language fascinating.
Also had a good goss with an old colleague and a few of the festival folk.
