a lifetime burning

Brown Argus

A Brown Argus on the lavender this afternoon taken at 400mm.  I raced back inside to put on the 70-200mm as it gives more of a magnification factor, assuming you can get close enough to the lenses minimum focus range, without spooking your subject.  But in this case the butterfly seemed to have had enough of the lavender and decided to move on before I even properly started to slowly move in towards it.

This morning was taken up with a motorbike trip around the Mendips, to get me a bit closer to next week's First Service running-in target mileage of 600-ish miles.  I'm not very far off now, but it's great to be able to enjoy the bike during warm (but not too hot) dry conditions.  The orange crush is now a dirty girl being covered in dead flies - and she was clean when she started out this morning.

The rest of the afternoon was taken up with some more work on a presentation I have agreed to give on photographing Ecuadorian birds.
