Kids today...
Woke up sore and very, very stiff. No matter what I tell myself, those warm-ups with Ottawacker Jr. cost me. I have to make sure I do more in between them now – as it is such an important part of what we do together that I really don’t want to not be able to do it. Got up a little later – having woken up numerous times in the night (see first sentence) – and as Ottawacker Jr. had gone out to ride whatever bus he was going to ride, took my Tylenol and got down to work. The translation has been going reasonably well – I am coping and taking my proofreaders (mostly excellent) suggestions with good grace. But today, having done six of the ten and amassed something like 20,000 words, I just couldn’t face it. So, with all the freedom that comes of being self-employed, I shouted “screw it” at the top of my voice, and gave myself the day off. Hoorah for me.
Anyway, that didn’t mean that I didn’t have stuff to do. I did some work – mostly reviewing what had been done and working out what the invoices were; I did the finances; I sorted out bills I had to pay; I tracked Ottawacker Jr. on his road trip to the western limits of the city. He called from Kanata Centrum at one time and said he was near to the cinema and wanted to go to the movies, would that be okay? So, of he went to see Elio, and it sounded like he had fun.
A few phone calls as well: called my niece in Chesham to wish her a happy birthday. She is still in the “I’m too shy to speak when people call” phase, which is great for my phone bill, but doesn’t help me build up too much of a relationship with her. I also spoke to my stepmother. Mrs. Ottawacker’s brother called round for a sandwich at lunchtime (on the off-chance). A neighbour called to wax lyrical about Ottawacker Jr. and how polite he was. Did anybody ever do that for me when I was a child? I don’t think so. Kids today - they get so little kudos...
All in all, an excellent day. I even managed to shave.
