Some Of My Little Monkees
On This Day In History
1967: Jimi Hendrix drops out as the opening act for The Monkees
Quote Of The Day
"I'm so embarassed that America could be so stupid as to make somebody like that. They could have at least done it with somebody that has something to offer. They got groups in the States starving to death trying to get breaks, and then these fairies come up."
(Jimi Hendrix)
Bonus Quote Of The Day
"Oh God, I hate them! Dishwater! You can't knock anybody for making it, but people like The Monkees?"
(Jimi Hendrix)
Yes, Jimi, you pretentious, homophobic ass, people do like The Monkees. I can't remember the last time I felt a desire to listen to your music - a brief fascination in my twenties when Cross Town Traffic was used in a T.V. ad - but I still enjoy listening to The Monkees, and have done so since I was ten years old.
The Monkees gave Jimi a huge break when he was a complete unknown. They only ever said complimentary things about him, he only ever said disgusting things about them. I'm sure a strong case could be made for Hendrix being the better artist, but in most other respects The Monkees win hands down, I reckon.
