At last...

As I have noted in this journal before,, twenty years ago I was on the board of a project that was trying to establish a Museum of Photography at the Old Royal High School on Calton Hill in Edinburgh.

If there is one art form that Scotland can claim to have invented, it is documentary photography and the "ground zero " of that claim lies at the door of the Hill House at this site.

That project never succeed, however, but it is good to see work finally starting on the building , which is to be the new home of the Edinburgh Music School.

The building was of course to be used for the Scottish Parliament had it been established after the 1979 Referendum and was the site of a long term "democracy demonstration" which was one of the many factors which led to the actual establishment of that Parliament - on a different site, though visible from this spot  - some twenty years later.
