A trip over to West Yorkshire

WEDNESDAY

I was out the door by 10:00 and headed east along the A55, M56, M6, M60, and M62 to West Yorkshire. It was a warm, bright, and sunny day—21ºC—and, for once, all the motorways ran smoothly.

My first stop was Liversedge Cemetery to leave some roses and spend a quiet moment in reflection. I took the photo from the back gates of the cemetery, looking towards Hartshead.

Then it was over to my cousin’s for tea, biscuits, and an hour of catch-up and reminiscence. The sixty minutes flew by.

Next, I visited the podiatrist in Heckmondwike—who, as it happens, is my first cousin once removed—so another round of family updates, this time from the other side of the tree.

My final stop was Arthur’s Café in Mirfield, where I met Stephen for a late lunch of sandwiches, coffee and cakes. A lifelong friend, he brought more conversation and memories, and we talked well beyond cafe closing time.

The journey home—through rush hour traffic—took a little longer. I stopped briefly for petrol and took a quick break at Birch Services before finally arriving home just before 7 p.m.
