Hope Springs Fraternal

I was feeling a bit downcast today - a combination of ongoing strife with another family member, my bad back returning and far too much doom scrolling over the lat few days.
I really didn't feel like getting up this morning let alone venturing any further afield but by my brother persuaded me that we should at least get out for a drink at lunchtime. So we headed for The King's Arms at Boxley.
This public house has a glorious garden and once we'd facilitated our pints we were rather surprised to find we had it all ourselves and as we imbibed our refreshments me and my brother had a good old chinwag and my spirits started to lift.
Once we'd finished our drinks we strolled the short distance across the village green to the church of St Mary the Virgin and All Saints, which has featured in several previous blips. It really is such a beautiful church set at the foot of the North Downs. Whilst my brother went for an amble around the churchyard I went inside, which was purely lit by the pale light coming in through the glorious stained glass windows you can see in my image.
It was quite a grey day outside so it was pretty gloomy inside the church and it was only as I headed towards the altar that I could see the letters spelling out the word hope. I'm not in the least religious but being in there on my own with just the word hope, the complete silence and with the light from the stained glass windows it really did give me a feeling of solace and calm.
Today's title is paraphrased form the 1732 Alexander Pope poem "An Essay On Man" where part of one line includes the phrase "Hope Springs Eternal.." where he expressed the notion that even in the face of adversity, humans retain a fundamental optimism and hope for a better future. That really can feel like a struggle with everything that's going on in the world at the moment but sometimes you do just have to believe in the power of hope. So this blip is dedicated to my brother who when I'm feeling down, miserable or upset is always there for me and gives me hope that things will get better. Thanks so much bruv..
