Lake Hike

We were sleeping so soundly and then the awful roar/thud of a motor woke me up around 2:30 am. I couldn’t figure it out so I woke up hubby. We think the sound must have come from our new neighbors’s camp site. Couldn’t get back to sleep so I picked up my phone and “loved” some pics Lauren had texted us of her children at the carnival. My sister did the same, almost simultaneously. Sugar wanted to spend the night in our mother’s bed and whimpered so much, it woke up my sister. We texted back and forth awhile. It was hard getting up at 7:00 but we wanted to “hike” near the lake early. As usual, there was a lot to see. This trail is a lot hillier as you can see in the photo of hubby. There were tons of water lilies in the lake. Kayakers and fishermen only had a narrow strip of clear water on which to travel. Some of the clouds were quite interesting. I only included two fungi today, Thelephora Vialis and Jellied False Coral fungus. The flowers are Common Cat’s Ear and a Virginia Dayflower hosting a Calligrapher fly. My favorite capture of the day however, was the Slaty Skimmer. There were loads of them darting at the edge of the lake. We waited forever for one to land long enough for me to snap a photo, fuzzy as it is. I simply love camping where we see so many wonderful specimens of nature. Our total trip was about 1.5 miles but that was enough for the heel. Going up and down hills stretched it more than it liked. After showers, we left the campground for the first time since we arrived on Sunday. We had lunch at the usual Mexican restaurant and then shopped for some essentials. Hubby kindly dropped me at the door and picked me up from the same location. He even treated me to a Wendy’s frosty since I brought part of my salad home and it was mostly lettuce to begin with. We put everything away, changed into our cooler camping attire and have been on the reclining lawn chairs ever since. Hubby will cook burgers on the grill later and I will make sides. We should have a quiet evening even though every campsite will be occupied. Maybe I’ll show you our campsite tomorrow since there is no plan to hike. Wishing you a fantastic weekend. Will try to look at journals later if I can stay awake. Stay safe. Thanks for visiting.
