Fishes

Today was The Youngest’s final day in primary education.

She has thoroughly enjoyed her final year and being the big fish in a small pond, but now as her brother moves from being the smallest fish in the much larger pond of secondary school, she will take his place.

The Leavers’ assembly first thing was a particularly emotional affair with a number of parents already in tears before the thing had even started. I didn’t think my aftershave was that strong……

The school doesn’t want pictures circulating on social media - which some parents have already completely ignored - but I think I’m safe with one of the back-breaking empty chairs left behind post-assembly.

At the tail end of the day was a Leavers’ barbecue at the local cricket club, which I thought was going to be just for the children, but turned out to be a much larger affair. Nice to end the week and start the summer holidays in the sunshine with a cold beer in hand.
