Butterfly Count
The Big Butterfly Count started today, the annual survey of numbers which we can all contribute to - as many Blippers already do. All the info is here.
My day started a little late, I slept in after feeding the dogs early on. Arriving at our favourite place to meet C and her Meg, there were clouds of butterflies busy among the wildflowers in the corners of the field. I resolved to go back there soon to do the count. This, a female Common Blue I think, was in my garden this afternoon, not very active as the day cooled a little, so an easy capture for my Blip. The knapweed appears every year in a grass path, I'm planning to do away with the little remaining grass but I might maintain this little patch.
The rest of the day has been a mix of a few chores and some restful clay play .... so sitting down watching Le Tour. I've also popped into pottery to dip three little earthenware vases that are part of my testing the earthenware dipping glazes. Dipping sounds like it should be easy ... but it's not, at least not if you want an even coat of glaze all over and awkwardly shaped piece.
