Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

what a day

This morning I went with the younger family to the nursery fundraising Day. There were some amazing raffle prizes, whisky, wine, various gins, chocolates even a drone however I won a Slytherin mug!
Josie had her face painted and Bonnie had a carton of Ribena so both were happy. We all had lovely cakes .
When I got home I made myself a ham roll and that was when things started to go wrong. I wiped the blade of the knife clean and sliced deeply into the side of my thumb. I managed to keep my head and put lots of pressure on it while I yelled for Colin.
I got through to NHS24 after only 10-15 minutes, they assessed me over the phone and told me to go to A&E at the Royal Infirmary, a 30 minute drive (if we're lucky) across town and likely a very, very long wait as it's such a busy hospital. I asked couldn't I go to the Minor Injuries Clinic at the Western General, around 5 minutes away. She checked with her supervisor but apparently the Western General wasn't showing as having a Minor Injuries Clinic.
I decided to risk it and we drove to the Western General, the Minor Injuries Clinic was there and open. I was first in the queue and was seen within half an hour.
I ended up with 4 butterfly stitches and a finger bandage and an instruction not to get it wet. I've failed on that already!
We went to Boots on the way home and picked up a finger stall which is not much use, it's about an inch too long for my thumb and far too wide and inflexible. I've ordered some individual ones from Amazon which look much more suitable. They arrive tomorrow.
We went and set out the church hall for tomorrow's lunch next, I didn't have much choice as I'd arranged for others to come and help us. We took less than an hour and that will make tomorrow much easier.
Back home I boiled potatoes for a potato salad and sliced the ham I boiled yesterday. I did wear rubber gloves from a box left over from covid days. I felt very hygiene conscious.
This evening I watched a live stream of Isobel dancing at the Global Dance Open Finals in Birmingham. Her group won the silver medal in the 9-11 years class, not bad as most of them are only 8. They won silver in a class earlier in the day too.
She has two more dances tomorrow, it's a full on weekend for them all, lucky it's school holidays. By contrast, her sister Eilidh and their dad have gone camping - not very good weather for it, they were aiming to do a couple of Munros today. Hopefully they didn't get too wet.
Sunday tomorrow and the first of the functions I've been coordinating for the last couple of months will take place. The leaving lunch for our assistant curate Ross. I'll try not to injure myself any more.
