Some flooding in DC

There is some flooding in DC and Maryland. I’m enough above the stream that we’re fine. 

I’ve been in a funk for a few days and it might be because of the Congressional vote over the rescission. If Congress allocates money for things, the President is legally required to spend it. Not spending it, using the money for something else, is illegal, which is a large part of why killing USAID was illegal. 

I think I’m also in a funk because now I have to apply for unemployment. I didn’t have to immediately because you don’t qualify while you get severance and I get/got a tiny bit. I wasn’t there long enough to get more. 

This evening I cheered up.

A person who is absolutely outstanding at helping developing countries improve their legal environments so the private sector is willing to invest in electricity and so customers pay their electrical bills is excited to work for me. I’ve now put together a whole team to pursue this very specific line of work. 

A friend gave me some money. I may not be paying all these amazing people but I am paying for Google Workspace for everyone. I’m about to add nine more people which will about double what I pay monthly. The money the friend gave helped me relax about it. Yes, we’re doing this. Yes, it’s worth it. The love. Breathe. 

Ukraine drone operators destroyed yet another Russian weapon. It is a Strela-10. Oryx, a Dutch open-source intelligence group that rigorously tracks Russian losses and only uses photo and video evidence says that Russia has lost 55 of them since the war began. The Strela-10 is a surface-to-air missile system. The drone operators are the 414th Strike Unmanned Systems Brigade Worm Busters unit. Ok, so they are the busters and Russians are the worms. Their other name is “Birds of Magyar.” 

Australia sent Ukraine the first batch of dozens of US built M1A1 Abrams tanks. The rest will arrive later this year. Australia promised them in October but the US objected.
